ARSENAL have been accused of fibbing about their crowd numbers again, while an FC Zurich star is probably wishing he didn’t celebrate his match winner.
ItsEuropa League Extra Time!
Rennes starlet Ismaila Sarr sent Twitter into meltdown as he netted a stunning goal of the season contender against Jablonec.
The wonderkid, recently shortlist for the prestigious golden boy award, launched an outrageous volley into the back of the net en route to a 2-1 home victory.
It was the 20-year-old’s third strike of the season thus far, and he’s unlikely to ever score a more spectacular one.
Fans couldn’t quite believe what they were seeing.
CHELSEA CHAIRMAN’S CHIPS
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has shown his appreciation to travelling fans by handing out packets of chips in the away end before their Europa League clash in Thessaloniki.
The Blues were 1-0 winners over PAOK in Greece, but fans would have been happy before the game hade even started as the Buck went around the stands and dished out the salty treat.
The Sun reports that the chairman went to talk to the supporters after they were left waiting for four hours for buses to the stadium, and he utilised a nearby vending machine to send some snacks their way as well!
Now that’s fan engagement.
GUNNERS CROWD FIB?
As Arsenal beat Vorksla Poltava, some social media users were more concerned with what was going on in the stands than on the park.
Many commented on the apparent lack of fans at the Emirates Stadium for the continental clash, similarly to concerns at Manchester City’s Etihad for their Champions League loss to Lyon.
Bizarrely, the club reported the official attendance as a whopping 59,039.
The Gunners ran out 4-2 winners in Unai Emery’s first Euro match in charge.
In a marketing executives dream, it was the battle of the Red Bulls overnight as Salzburg took on Leipzig.
And the action didn’t disappointed as Leipzig clawed back from two goals down before being beaten in dramatic circumstances.
An 89th minute winner, scored by Salzburg’s Fredrik Gulbrandsen, saw not one but two scorpion kicks in the lead up as the Austrian side snatched a last-gasp victory.
It was eventually the winner for FC Zurich, but if scorer Benjamin Kololli had his time again… he probably wouldn’t celebrate.
Footage of the star’s attempt to hop into the crowd in the wake of his successful penalty has gone viral.
The reason being that he failed to realise there was a moat around the pitch, meaning he as he jumped over the hoardings he plumetted into a deep ditch in hilarious fashion.
YOU GOOD, GUNNERS?
Alexandre Lacazette didn’t see a single minute of action for Arsenal, but his behaviour has still caught the eye.
The striker slumped in his seat on the bench looking relaxed as ever, while his teammates did the business on the park.
While goalkeeper Petr Cech wasn’t even a part of the squad for this clash with back-up Bernd Leno finally getting his chance.
But interestingly as Leno was beaten late in the match, Cech appeared to show a cheeky smile in his seat!
