Sydney grade cricket doesn’t appear to have done Steve Smith any harm as he comfortably faced deliveries from Australia’s feared quicks on Tuesday.
Smith squared up to Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins during an intense session in the SCG nets.
The trio put their former captain through his paces and weren’t afraid to deliver some short-stuff to the suspended batsman, who has been playing for Sutherland District Cricket Club.

Smith could be seen working through his full repertoire – flicking Starc through the on-side, punching Hazlewood through cover and pulling Cummins to square leg.
He was, however, at one point floored by a Hazlewood bouncer, cricket.com.au reported.
But despite the complete loss of footing, Smith still appeared to successfully hook the delivery as one hand flung off the bat’s handle.
In the adjacent nets, the Cricket Australia XI prepared for its four-day tour match against India, starting Wednesday.
The team’s captain Sam Whiteman eagerly watched the Smith v Hazlewood-Starc-Cummins showdown.
“That was pretty good to watch actually,” he said according to the publication. “That’s not a great net to face up in.
“It looked like they were bowling well and, to be fair, Steve Smith made it look like he had a bit of time in there, which is pretty amazing to watch.
“To see him in there training getting frustrated when he nicks one is pretty cool to see and definitely a great lesson for all those younger guys.”
Smith still has four months left to serve on his year-long ball-tampering suspension.
