STEP aside, LeBron James. There’s a new drought-breaker in Cleveland.
Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield was the spark plug on Friday (AEST), boosting the Cleveland Browns to a 21-17 win over the New York Jets, busting a 635-day streak without a victory.
With Tyrod Taylor sidelined due to the NFL’s concussion protocol, Mayfield was inserted into the game and made an immediate impact.
The Heisman Trophy winner showed off a very strong arm as he threw for more yards with his first two NFL passes than Taylor had in the first half.
The Browns trailed the Jets 14-3 at the main break, before the home team found their rhythm in the second half.
Mayfield showed that he’s got more than just a cannon arm on an incredible trick play that levelled the scores, catching it in the end-zone for a two-point conversion from Jarvis Landry.
More to come!
