Mark & Spencer is allowing customers to return clothing to its food-only stores as it prepares to close 100 shops.

Shoppers will now be able to choose from 280 Simply Food stores to return unwanted purchases.

It follows a trial which started last year.

M&S is planning to extend it to more stores later this year and has joined forces with returns provider Doddle to offer the service.

It comes as it prepares to shut 100 stores by 2020 – most of them larger food and clothing stores, meaning some shoppers could be forced to make 30-mile round trips to their nearest M&S.

The retailer is drastically trying to cut costs to revitalise dismal profits.
