AFL trades: Tim Kelly West Coast deal, rather play for Geelong than Fremantle in 2019

HOURS after Fremantle dealt Melbourne and Jesse Hogan’s manager a slap, the Dockers have been hit with their own curveball, with Tim Kelly saying he’d rather see out his contract with Geelong than play at Fremantle in 2019, despite the Dockers’ aggressive attempt to poach the midfielder.

The Cats and West Coast are at an impasse after WA product Kelly requested a trade home but specifically to the Eagles, despite being contracted to Geelong until the end of 2019.

At this stage, the Eagles’ first two draft selections are Picks 20 and 22, yet the Cats are asking for a first-round selection in exchange for Kelly, who recently finished equal-second in Geelong’s best and fairest after a stunning debut season.

With the Eagles unable to satisfy Geelong at this stage, the Dockers have attempted to pounce, with Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph suggesting they’ve put Pick 11 — the first-round pick they acquired from Port Adelaide this week and attempted to use as part of a trade for Hogan — on the table for Kelly.
