AFL news: Carlton Blues, Denis Pagan; Salary cap scandal still haunting club

FORMER Carlton premiership-winning coach Denis Pagan says the Blues’ salary cap scandal and subsequent harsh penalties are still haunting the club.

The current AFL cellar dwellers were stripped of their first and second round picks and fined almost $1 million in 2002 for making undisclosed payments to star players.

It has since been revealed that more than $750,000 in brown paper bags were given to players over a five-year period in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Four big names were linked to the scandal including club legend Stephen Silvagni, Craig Bradley, as well as Fraser Brown and Stephen O’Reilly.
